Like the idea and I really like how the upgrade is paid for ... automatic lower income for a set period of time while researching the upgrade. The loophole of course being that some players wouldn't join until after the cartel has the upgrades but maybe there's a way to close that loophole.

Perhaps allow cartels to charge admission fee (ie, if cartel had to pay 3 billion, have like a 30-50 million fee that could go toward later upgrades)

or delay the upgrade to newer players. (ie if the upgrade took say 36 hours, those that just join will have to wait for 36 hours after joining)

Ok I am to lazy to lazy to go back and look right now.. but 2 big things have come since this thread last saw daylight.

1) Single player mode - Nate still working on it.

2) Talk of a new building that I coulda sworn nate mentioned in another thread might come around. Kinda like this idea but giving to each individual.. Basically adding an "Upgrade building" To the game.. Adding the ability to upgrade units to make them more powerful in some way shape or form. Either higher Def, Off, Dec, SP, Destruction, HP, DR, DL..

Either way.. One big change at a time.

I think let nate come out with the single player mode. Let us then find all the stuff wrong with it.. and let everyone who hates it flame the living shit outta it...

Then have nate nerf single player mode.... THEN he can start on the next big project for this game...

Via upgrade building for each individual, or cartel wide boss picked upgrade talked about in this thread.

All while building new games, upgrading exsisting games, and getting inactive games (WI) back on its feet...

Point being... One big idea at a time. And this idea talked about in this thread.. Will require lots of coding.. And lots of fixing and debugging...

would it make strong cartels too strong?

sounds like a good idea that needs alot more thought.

in a small server like the olympics with somewhat balanced teams could be a good thing.

but wouldnt all the cartels eventually have the same level of tech and be equal?

The objective would be to make it either cost prohibitive or to perhaps have 10 potential upgrades and a cartel could use no more than 3 of them, forces a cartel to focus on cash, offense, defense or a slight upgrade to all, kind of how the cards work currently, just cartel wide.

Players have to pay into it from the beginning, if you join up mid round, its going to cost you a bunch of money to join the cartel, would stabilize the cartels and encourage start to finish groupings as well

Could make the cost Base Per Person... Ie... Armor upgrade costs 24M... if you have 24 members they pay 24Mx 24 for each person. Everyone pays their share for the upgrade. Thats the only way I can see it working. And you could have a base cost that the whole cartel puts in to make that upgrade available... Say They pay 200M... 300M.. w/e the cost to allow the technology to be researched. Then every member pays their own cost to upgrade it... 24M... w/e you want the cost to be. If a new member joins the upgrade is available thanks to the other members paying for it. Or if they switched from a cartel and already have upgraded it it remains in their list of upgrades. If they drop to a cartel that doesnt have the technology open they lose it. However, overall... I can see this just making huge cartels even stronger... I am in one of them, We could easily purchase these upgrades quicker than the smaller ones and be even more powerful... Has a up and down. Big cartels with active members are going to be quicker to make technologies available and purchase them. Need to find a way to make the pricing per person the same. However I think a base cost needs to be there... otherwise a 1 person cartel could open up all the technologies. im kind of back and forth on this.

Maybe just making all technologies available all the time with X cost per person would be the best way to make this fair.. just my 2 cents. I think having a total cost divided by the cartel members is going to wind up creating an even bigger gap between big cartels and small ones.

Definately needs some thought put into it to make if fair for 5 man cartels vs 30 man cartels as far as what it costs to get the upgrades. Otherwise you will wind up seeing cartels with a few active members and a ton of farms just to purchase upgrades... and they are still going to get ran over by the bigger cartels...

Agreed, we have to find a way to eliminate the disparity this will cause.

Maybe make the cost increase as the rank of the cartel increases? this will make it a lot more expensive for the big cartels. As a cartel grows, maybe make it slowly draw additional cash from the current members(say 10 mil over 24 hours per additional person joining), so as to prevent a cartel from starting with a couple members, buying all the upgrades and then just having everyone else join.

EDIT: of course then people will just form multiple branches...
